TRUSTEES'
REPORT
BY Tom Beresford A.
Report of the President – Tom Beresford
Many of us have had the opportunity to experience the “joys” of home ownership first hand. The joy of a furnace refusing to fire up on the coldest night of the year. The joy of clogged gutters needing to be cleaned in the midst of a torrential downpour. Finding the money to cover those darn insurance premiums that went up again this year! Shoveling those sidewalks (within 24 hours of the snowfall) to prevent injury to those coming to visit or just passing through. Multiply those “joys” by the size of our two large building complexes and three properties and you may begin to appreciate the job undertaken by your nine-member Board of Trustees. While not our only task this year, keeping water out of our Chancellor Street building was certainly our biggest challenge. The problem was addressed starting at the top of the chimney and ended underground with a number of stops along the way to repair roof, gutters and downspouts. I am pleased to report that there have been no recurrences of outside water showing up inside our buildings since the repairs were completed early this fall. That may have been the biggest effort but, like your home, there is a constant array of projects (planned and unplanned) that take time, talent and money to keep at bay. This year’s list included interior painting and new carpeting (planned), trapping raccoons and squirrels that gained access to church interiors (unplanned) and monitoring progress at the old Acme site (planned but frustrating, slow and painful) among a long list of projects addressed by your Trustees. At mid-year we said thanks and good-bye to Bob Bebon and Caron Williams – both having served their terms with energy and devotion. We welcomed Heidi Adams and Vince Farese who, along with Don Chase, Penny Ettinger, Walt Jamison, Steve Kossayian, Brent Wiggins and Doug Witschen make up this dedicated group of people determined to keep our churches safe, secure and well maintained places to worship. Pray that God will grant us wisdom and direction as we continue to support His mission here in Newtown. The next meeting of the Board of Trustees will be onWednesday, September 10, 2008, at 7:30 P.M. in Ettenger Hall************************************************************************* If you want to learn more about the Historic Church, check out this link
