******************************************
Report
of the Moderator The Deacons have had another rewarding year of service under their
servant-leader, Jesus Christ. They
have served the congregation and the community in the areas of fellowship,
flower distribution, special meal preparation, food pantry, holiday drives,
taping of worship services, visitation and transportation. In addition, the Deacons have kept in touch with the young
adults of our church who are away at school and/or in military service by
sending warm greetings and “care packages” to them with the love and prayers
of our church family.
The Deacons also continued to
administer two memorial funds: (1) the Clara Johnson Fund, which was established by the
Clara Johnson family to provide financial assistance to qualified church members
for end-of-life medical care that is not covered by private insurance or
governmental assistance; and (2) the Mary Nell
Britton Fund, which was
established by the Mary Nell Britton family to provide a number of Easter
holiday dinners to local families in need.
Please contact the office if you are interested in joining the Deacons or
in participating in any of their service work.
Bob Murray, Jr. - Moderator ---------- PRAYER By Harry
Hughes Prayer is a powerful tool of the Christian faith available to all of us, at any time and in any place. Especially at a time when there is much turmoil in the world, we look for ways to help. Prayer is one of those ways. Prayer is mentioned in the Old Testament, Gospels and Epistles. Luke tells us to pray continually in Acts. Paul informs us to pray steadfastly in Romans, in everything in Philippians, for fasting in Corinthians and without ceasing in Thessalonians. Paul writes in Timothy 2:1-3, our leaders should not be excluded from our prayers. Pray for our President that he would rely on God for wisdom, knowledge and understanding. That he would resist pressure from those who would have him violate his conscience and that he be reminded daily that he is accountable to God. Pray for our military and its leaders for wisdom, understanding, discernment and the safe return of our men and women to their families. And don't forget our POW's. Pray that they are receiving fair and just treatment. And finally pray for the families of these brave young men and women who serve. They weren't drafted. They volunteered and many have left jobs and businesses to serve in the Middle East and around the world. Their families are left without a father, mother or a steady income provider. All of these individuals need our continued prayer and love.
****************************************** NEED TRANSPORTATION? HELP WITH TRANSPORTATION?
Did you know the Deacons have a committee that provides transportation for
congregation members who might need temporary assistance?
Help is available for those necessary trips to the dentist, doctor, or hospital,
etc. Our aim is to fill the gap when no other
service or means are available. If you find
yourself with such a need, please contact the Church Office and let us help.
Did you also know you do not have to be a Deacon to serve the Lord in this way? All are welcome to assist and even a few hours
here or there are greatly appreciated. Maybe
you would like to be available for Saturday mornings only, for just one month, a season,
or only on a certain day between certain hours. Whatever
God has called you to do, we invite you to join us in this valuable ministry for those in
need.
Should you need a driver, or if you would like to volunteer, please call the Church
Office (215-968-3861) during office hours, Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 4
p.m., or leave a message on the machine. Someone
will return your call as soon as possible.
